Catfish Blog

"How would you feel if you were Catfished?"

I saw the documentary Catfish in class and I was thinking about Nev (main character)'s reaction to that and how od was that. He was acting like nothing had happened and even stayed friends with that woman on facebook.know that if I was cat fished I would be devastated. I would be depressive because you start caring about someone that you don't even know and that was lying to you the whole time.

An on-line digital footprint is something you, most of the time, choose to show the on-line world what you want them to know about you, but sometimes you don't have a choice like when people say things about you on-line or you regret something that you've posted but you'll never be able to undo it. So always be careful of what you post or send to other people who can eventually use that against you. Digital footprints can be manipulated mostly on open to public (non private) acounts. Most of the time the people who manipulates are hackers who are pretty good at figuring out passwords mostly if they are easy to guess.

International Affairs #2

Pope Francis arrived in Brazil on Monday, july 22, and has reportedly thrown local authorities for a loop by refusing to tour streets in a bulletproof version of the famous "popemobile", insisting instead on remaining exposed in an open-air car and consequently a crowd of well-wishers mobbed Pope Francis's car.

Here's the link for the video when Pope Francis arrived in Brazil:

Interviews #2

We, me and Giovana, have compiled all data from the class's interviews (70 people) and came to a conclusion from each of the questions, but there were a few that called my attention.
- "Do you get your news on-line, TV or print?" the answer that was most used was on-line (more than half), than was TV and 5 people chose print and taking a look deeper, most of them are 40 and older.
- "How often do you check news?" the answer most used was Daily, which shows that people live their daily live surrounded by news and current events
- "Do you consider Celebrity Gossip news?" 73%  answered yes, so people consider celebrity gossip entertainment, not news.
-"Do you consider ongoing criminal trials news?" more than half answered yes, so people prefere criminal trial than gossip
- "Do you trust the Internet sources for news?" The answers were really divided 20 answered yes, 16 answered no and 23 answered maybe, and I was surprised because it just depends on the source

Quotes from the Interviews:

"I don't really know what infotainment means but I think Infotainment is informative ways to entertain the viewer"

"The media manipulates the story lines to develop a headline that will give them attention"

Interviews

Last week, my friend Giovana and I, went around the UCLA campus and asked people some questions. The interviewers had different ages and genders, so the answers were really different. The questions were based on a discussion our a group had in class. The interviewers had to give us their opinions about news, what genre they most enjoy and some more questions about the topic news. The question people had more trouble answering was the one where they had to define "infotainment". Everyone we interviewed gave us almost the same anwer, wich was: entertainment news.

International Affairs

My name is Ana Luiza, I'm in a group with Giovana, Lavina and Alex. Our theme is International Affairs and we are specifying in the protests happening in Brazil for the last month. The protests are taking part in the cities of São Paulo, Brasília and Rio de Janeiro. The reason was the increase in the price of the bus which was directly deposited on the tax bill and, instead of that money being used to improve the health care system, that has been very poor, the government is using this to improve and build stadiums for the Olympics and the next World Cup. These recent events are leading the country to a huge change in it's history.

So... What's news ?

  • We can consider the CNN clip news, information, entertainment and infotainment because it talks about a subject which some details are been heard for the first time and are been passed on to the viewers.

  • The Comedy Central Clip isn't entertainment nether infotainment but it can be considered news and information.

  • The Enews clip can be considered news, information, entertainment and infotainment because like the first clip it's talking about something that wasn't known before and people want to hear about this kind of information, since they are talking about a celebrity.

  • The Young Turks clip can be considered only news and information because not everyone wants to know about Egypt, they just aren't entertained or interested about this kind of information.
